Monique is a young carer who has told us about her ambitions of being a multi-media journalist.
Caring for her mum at such a young age brings challenges, but in the face of those challenges Monique's dedication to following her chosen path led her to apply to our Manchester's Rising Stars Fund as a way to realise these ambitions. Allowing her to hone her skills and make her way into a professional career.
The MRSF was able to grant her £2,000 to purchase a Canon DOS EP0 camera, lens and tripod to equip her to be an effective journalist!
The award will also enable Monique to work freelance during the summer with different organisations, to enhance her skills in photography and videography. This experience will be vital to Monique’s future career as a journalist as she will be expected to film, edit and write exceptionally well.

Your funding for my professional equipment will be vital in my studies in multi-media journalism, and will help me to conduct my own video interviews and short documentaries, all whilst studying and learning from some of the best in the business. I will forever be grateful to the We Love Manchester Charity and Akemia from 84Youth* for this incredible support"
