Eden is a wonderful and skilled young man who has experienced significant hardship and trauma in his young life.
In 2017, his Mum suddenly passed away whilst he was studying for his GCSEs. Eden told us how he found himself having to support his family both financially and emotionally. Then, unimaginably, in 2019 Eden’s Dad suffered a condition leaving him in hospital care. Due to these circumstances, Eden was living in The Manchester Foyer, a homeless hostel for young people.
Despite these severe challenges, Eden always remained committed to his education and didn't let them hold back his ambition to be a musician. Eden is incredibly talented – a first-class classical tenor, also singing musical theatre, worship and pop. If that wasn't enough he also plays piano and is adept in sound engineering and production, proving his musical instinct!
Eden applied to Conservatoires and music colleges, all of which he was accepted to! He accepted a scholarship at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow to study BMUS vocal studies, an incredibly prestigious institution. Eden then applied to the MRSF for the items he needs to support these studies and his career a musician.
Janat Khan, his support worker at The Manchester Foyer, couldn’t speak highly enough of Eden:
Eden has excelled at college and has spent the last year volunteering his time to help other students and the music department as a whole. He has shown passion and optimism.
When faced with trauma and hardship, he remained focused on his education when others in similar situation understandably wouldn’t carry on. Eden is a highly talented young person who deserves to follow his passion.”
Not only was the MRSF able to grant Eden the laptop and specialist software he needs to support his studies and his career - our Trustees also awarded him £2,000 towards his accommodation costs for his first year at university, relieving some of the anxiety Eden was feeling around supporting himself as an independent student.
Eden was thrilled with this outcome:
"I want to personally thank everyone at the We Love MCR Charity! By granting me this immense support, I can start at the RCS in September with a huge weight off of my shoulders! I am eternally grateful!"
