The Clayton and Openshaw Councillor takes the reins from Cllr Tommy Judge, who held the position for the last 18 months.
Cllr Ludford was invested as the new Lord Mayor of Manchester on 18th May 2022, and in doing so she takes over as We Love MCR Charity's new Chair of Trustees.
For those that forget - we were founded as, and remain to this day, the Lord Mayor of Manchester's Charity!
"Growing up in care, being a care leaver, does not define me. The scars it left does not define me. My achievements define me. My achievements make me who I am, and who I want to be."
The Lord Mayor has pledged to focus her efforts on the young people of this city, and in particular those in the Care and Leaving Care Service, drawing on her own experiences growing up as a looked after child in Manchester.
Due to this, the Lord Mayor has a particular place in her heart for our Manchester's Rising Stars Fund, and we can't wait to work closely with her to achieve our shared aims of making Manchester a better place for the young people in its care, through our Funds.
In her time as Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Ludford threw herself feet-first into We Love MCR events such as our 2021 Firewalk, and she isn't stopping there as she has already signed up to our upcoming Abseil in July!
We are privileged to have Lord Mayor Cllr Ludford as the Chair of Trustees, and the extraordinary speech she made at her investiture definitely deserves listening to. Click the YouTube link below to hear it in it's entirety.
We give huge thanks to Former Lord Mayor, Cllr Tommy Judge, who oversaw some incredible Charity achievements during his tenure. Not least, the record-breaking sum of £1.35million of grants awarded in that time, via We Love MCR Charity's Covid Community Response Fund, Stronger Communities Fund, and Manchester's Rising Stars Fund.
As Former Lord Mayor, Cllr Judge retains a seat on our Board of Trustees for another year, so it's not quite farewell just yet...
Finally, we would like to welcome our new Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor for Moston, Yasmine Dar! We look forward to working with Cllr Dar over the next three years.
